FK-5-1-12 exists as a liquid at room temperature, is colorless, odorless, and non-conductive in both liquid and gas states (also known as "dry water"). The boiling point of FK-5-1-12 is 49.2°C, and its vaporization heat is approximately 25 times lower than that of water. Additionally, the vapor pressure of FK-5-1-12 is about 12 times higher than that of water, which means FK-5-1-12 vaporizes 50 times faster than water. Therefore, FK-5-1-12 transitions from liquid to gas very quickly when discharged through nozzles into the protected area. In other words, FK-5-1-12 only exists as a liquid when stored in a pressurized cylinder; when discharged for fire suppression, it immediately turns into vapor.
The primary mechanism of FK-5-1-12 for fire suppression is heat absorption from the fire without directly affecting the oxygen concentration in the fire area. This allows individuals to breathe, observe, and safely evacuate from the fire area.
FK-5-1-12 does not affect materials such as iron, aluminum, copper, plastics, rubber, or electrical compounds. Therefore, it does not cause any damage to electrical and electronic equipment in the fire area. After being discharged into the fire area, FK-5-1-12 leaves no residue and does not cause corrosion, eliminating environmental cleanup costs and saving time in recovery efforts, thus reducing post-fire handling costs.
FK-5-1-12 is stored as a liquid under high pressure, and its low concentration allows for space-saving in the system. For the same volume, a dry water cylinder of FK-5-1-12 is much more effective than CO2 or other inert gas cylinders.
FK-5-1-12 is effectively used for volumetric fire suppression in areas such as:
